Happy Birthday Poppy

Welcome to this week's LIMES inspiration post!

I chose this card as my inspiration from the gallery of this week's Splitcoaststampers' Featured Stamper!

LIST: Colours (red, white, black), Techniques (stamping, die cutting), Elements (large circle element over the edge of the card, patterned paper argyle background, stamped sentiment strip)

INCLUDE: red, white, black, stamping, die cutting,
MODIFY: brought circle element onto the card, stamped tone on tone background, not patterned paper, sentiment placement changed, added some green and yellow
EXCLUDE: maze
SPIN:

I chose this inspiration because it has one of my favourite elements - that maze hanging off the top - you can do that with my square cards, and they still still fit in an A2 envelope.

I stamped, customized and coloured my stamp, intending to have it hang over the top, but it just didn't feel right, especially with the same stamped pattern on the red background, so I let the card tell me how it wanted to be made! lol!

Daisy Happy Birthday

Welcome to this week's LIMES inspiration post!

I chose this card as my inspiration from the gallery of this week's Splitcoaststampers' Featured Stamper!

LIST: Colours (white, black, red, green), Techniques (die cutting, stamping) Elements (lattice die cut, 3D rose, stamped sentiment)

INCLUDE: white, black, die cutting, die cut background

MODIFY: pink instead of red, addded yellow, flat die cut flower instead of 3d, die cut sentiment

EXCLUDE: green,

This pretty inspiration card has a classic, elegant feeling that I changed to more 'cartoon' feeling. I used a coverplate die to create my background, and a matching flower to create the inlaid and outlined flower. I added a big center to the daisy, and topped it with crystal glaze and chunky glitter.

Saying Goodbye is hard...

I bought this (now retired) background stamp in 2021. Until now, I have never used it. I have even 'tried' to de-stash it several times, but it kept convincing me to keep it. And finally inspiration struck!

CASE Me a Christmas Card (Surprise!)

Normally at this time of year, I would be really excited to be helping Michelle Lupton kick off her annual Case me a Christmas Card feature. This year, Michelle's decided to take a break, and when she gave me that news I was so disappointed. Michelle is such an inspiring and lovely person and crafter and I look forward to this every year, and it turns out I'm not the only one!  So A bunch of us got together and decided to throw Michelle a surprise party, filled with lots of friends casing Michelle's cards. And the best part? You can join in too, if you want! Details in my video below:

Happy Birthday

Welcome to this week's LIMES inspiration post!

I chose this card as my inspiration from the gallery of this week's Splitcoaststampers' Featured Stamper!

LIST: Colours (red, yellow, blue, white, green), Techniques (stencil, die cut, stamping, inkblending) Elements (square pattern multi-colour background, parrot, two pink circles, white sentiment strip with red stamping, stickles)

INCLUDE: yellow, blue, white green, stencil, die cut, ink blending, square pattern multi-colour background, stickles
MODIFY: pink instead of red, white die cut sentiment, one pink circle instead of 2
EXCLUDE: parrot
SPIN:

I was absolutely intrigued by the colourful, grid background in my inspiration card. I love geometrics and I love ink blending, so I grabbed a stencil and 4 inks and created my background.

I added green to my background since I knew I wouldn't be able to add a green parrot and I cut out a circle from the centre. I added Stardust stickles to all the edges for a bit of sparkle.

I inlaid my pink circle and that solid colour helped to make my die cut birthday sentiment stand out.

Today, we are remembering our friend Lindsey with a blog hop (see details below for how you can help!)

To honour her memory, I chose this card from Lindsey's blog as my inspiration.

INCLUDE: red orange yellow, brown, alcohol inks, die cutting

MODIFY: proportions of colour - I used my alcohol ink panel as a background, thanks instead of sympathy, 3 gold outlined vellum leaves, black 'frame' is die cut

EXCLUDE: tearing

BLOG HOP DETAILS:

Today, we are hopping in memory of our dear friend and fellow card maker, Lindsey Martin-Penny, who sadly passed away last year from a rare and aggressive form of ovarian cancer.

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and Lindsey’s husband Burke thought it would be a great time to sell off her many craft supplies, with all of the proceeds going towards Lindsey’s Legacy Fund for Clear Cell Ovarian Cancer Research in cooperation with The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

The purpose of this hop will be to honour Lindsey, celebrate her life and all that she loved, as well as help spread the word to raise funds for clear cell ovarian cancer research.  You can help in one of several ways!

  1. Purchase a Flat Rate Mailer stuffed with loads of fabulous craft supplies.  These can only be mailed within Canada and there will be no tax receipts provided with the purchase of these boxes.  A box of craft supplies would make a great gift for yourself, a crafty friend or a child/classroom!  For details about the boxes and how you can go about purchasing one, please email lindseyslegacyfund@rogers.com with the message "Craft Box" or visit Lindsey’s original blog, Bashful Blogging.  Every craft box purchased in September will be entered into a draw and one lucky winner will win a $100 gift certificate to Scrap ‘n Stamp.

  2. During the month of September, shop at Scrap ‘n Stamp using the code LINDSEY10 at checkout.  You will get 10% off your purchase (sale items excluded) and Scrap ‘n’ Stamp will donate 10% of their proceeds to Lindsey’s Legacy Fund.

  3. Any donations over $15 made directly to Lindsey’s Legacy Fund will receive a digital tax receipt.

  4. Repost this hop on your social media and encourage others to share!

Lindsey’s Legacy Hop begins at Emily Leiphart’s blog.  If you get lost along the way, please return to Emily’s blog where she will have the entire hop list.

The next stop on the hop is Jess on Instagram. Please be sure to leave a comment at each of the stops where you can learn more about Lindsey’s life, loves and her legacy.

Thanks so much for hopping with us!

Thinking of You Poppies

Welcome to this week's LIMES inspiration post!

I chose this card as my inspiration from the gallery of this week's Splitcoaststampers' Featured Stamper!

LIST: Colours (orange, yellow, red, teal, white, black), Techniques (stamping and watercolouring), Elements (poppies, snow, thank you stamped  sentiment, teal/blue edge, watercolouring with a loose feel).

INCLUDE: orange, yellow, red, teal, white, poppies, teal blue edge

MODIFY: stenciling, spritzing technique instead of stamping and watercolouring, gold splatter instead of white, thinking of you sentiment higher on the card, trimmed panel down to leave white border

Micheline's work is absolutely stunning - she uses stamped outlines and watercolours to create little pieces of art that look hand-drawn and painted!

I had a crazy idea that I would stencil some poppies, blend a blue background and then spritz water over the whole thing to get it moving. AND IT WORKED! lol!

I used a Simon Says Stamp layering stencil set, and masked it off so that I only had two of the poppies showing. I blended yellow and red and brown ink onto the petals, and then two shades of green on the stems and leaves.

Then it was time to spritz it all with water to get that 'loose' look that Micheline had. And I'll be honest. I was scared! lol!

It started moving and then it kept moving and I grabbed my heat gun to dry it before it lost all the details. The colours did get a little paler with the water, but I think it's still really pretty.

Once it was dry, I splattered gold watercolour over top and then stamped my Catherine Pooler sentiment.

Fab Floral Thanks

Welcome to this week's LIMES inspiration post!

I chose this layout as my inspiration from the gallery of this week's Splitcoaststampers' Featured Stamper!

LIST: Colours (pink, yellow, aqua, white, green) Techniques (digital scrapbooking that looks like die cutting, Elements (stars, hexagons in horizontal line, love, flowers, stripes, plaid, heart, banner)

INCLUDE: pink, yellow, aqua, white, green, horizontal focal image

MODIFY: gold splatter instead of stars, 6 petal flowers instead of hexes, white die cut thanks

EXCLUDE: stripes, plaid, heart, banner

I love looking through the galleries of our SCS Scrapbookers - I'm always fascinated to see how different people preserve their memories and photos.

I created my magenta background by mixing together two Catherine Pooler inks, then used those two inks plus 4 others to create the flowers made with the offcuts from a Simon Says Stamp cover plate die.

There's a lot of intense colour here, so my brain was screaming for some white elements - I added a white Spellbinders sentiment and flower centres.

Happy 24th Birthday!

This card has a big secret inside! It's a Secret Message fun-fold card, that was inspired by a video my friend Bitty Penny made. She and I are both sharing videos today, each inspired by the other, so start here with mine, and then go see how some of my work inspired her!

Geo Flower Birthday

Welcome to this week's LIMES inspiration post!

I chose this card as my inspiration from the gallery of this week's Splitcoaststampers' Featured Stamper!

LIST Colours (pink, yellow, orange, red, gold) Techniques (heat embossing, die cutting) Elements (flower wreath, solid flowers with white outlines, gem centres, circle sentiment panel with heat embossed sentiment)

INCLUDE: pink, yellow, orange, flower wreath,

MODIFY: stamped flowers instead of die cut, die cut sentiment instead of stamped,

EXCLUDE: white outlines, heat embossing

I love this floral wreath in graduated colours, and I even have those dies, but I decided to try something a little different.

I used my Altenew stampwheel to stamp the first layer of 4-petal flowers with one of the shapes from a Geo Flower Builder stamp set. Then I turned the stamp to create 8-petal flowers, and stamped them all again, and again, to get lots of contrast and a layered look, with the exact same colours.

With Deepest Sympathy

Welcome to this week's LIMES inspiration post!

I chose this card as my inspiration from the gallery of this week's Splitcoaststampers' Featured Stamper!

LIST: Colours (green, cream, brown), Techniques (die cut, stamping, blending, splattering), Elements ( stitched frame, tree, ribbon, stamped sentiment)

INCLUDE:  die cut, stamping, blending, splattering, tree, stamped sentiment, tree going over the edge

MODIFY: colours to blue/white, black, frame layout to blended strip in centre,

EXCLUDE: ribbon, stitching,

Seems like I rarely choose sympathy cards as my inspiration - like most of us, I prefer happy cards with bright colours. But this inspiration just radiates peace, doesn't it?

I masked off two edges of my white panel and blended 4 blue/green inks and then splattered them with water.

My original intent was to make the tree die cut the same colour as my darkest ink blending, but I liked the white (although maybe with pine trees, it looks a little Christmassy?).

I stacked up two tree die cuts and stamped a sentiment from a recent Catherine Pooler Sympathy set.

LIMES: Glowing Peace & Joy

Welcome to this week's LIMES inspiration post!

I chose this card as my inspiration from the gallery of this week's Splitcoaststampers' Featured Stamper!

LIST: Colours (black, white, red/pink. teal/green, blue). Techniques (heat embossing), Elements (colourful ornaments, white heat embossing on black half-circle, pine branches)

INCLUDE: black, white, red, green, blue

MODIFY: ornaments to lights, black half circle to top half of panel, sentiment black on white, not white on black

EXCLUDE: heat embossing, pine branch

SPIN: used circles to create 'glow' for lights

I love the mid-century feel of these festive ornaments and you know that a big punch of black is right up my alley.

I created my background panel by cutting the light-string from white, black and silver and then inlaying the silver between the black and white portions.

For my lights, I wanted a simple, graphic feel, so I blended ink onto them and then masked and blended a darker shade along the side for 'dimension'. For my 'glow', I used circle die cuts blended with lighter shades of ink. This use of simple shapes also adds to the graphic, almost comic-book feel of this card and calls back to the circular shape of some of the ornaments, and the large black half-circle on my inspiration,

I finished with a very small sentiment stamped in black on white.
