Geo Happy Birthday

I chose this card as my inspiration from the gallery of this week's Splitcoaststampers' Featured Stamper!

LIST: Colours (teal, yellow, gray, brown), Techniques (die cutting, heat embossing, stamping), Elements (horizontal petal shapes, heat embossed flowers, sentiment strip with dark mat, 2 pearls)

INCLUDE: teal, yellow, gray

MODIFY: petals run vertically, have extra die cut inlays to mix colours, sentiment is circle with dark mat, 3 gems instead of pearls, dark gray background

EXCLUDE: heat embossing, flowers, brown

SPIN: square card

I love when geometric shapes fit together like this to create a pattern. I created strips of coloured paper with 3 colours of ink, and then die cut all my petals. I mixed up my colours a bit more than Giovana did because of the way my petal die cuts nesting shapes all at once.  If you don't have these little nesting dies, you could get a similar look with larger nesting dies in simple shapes.

I finished with a very simple sentiment in a matted circle.

MODIFY: inkblended the colours rather than layering, added die cut sentiment, embossing on circles

This is SO COOL. I love how these patterns create a continuous flow down the card ! I don't often copy a card so closely, but it took me most of an afternoon of trial and error to get a similar look with inkblending so I didn't stray too far from the original (but I have lots of ideas how to do that now!). Seems like the important thing is that the difference in size between the 3 circles has to be equal (ie 1/2 inch). I used 1.25", 1.75" and 2.25".   I taped the blue and green half-circle die cuts together and ran the whole thing through my die cutting machine with an embossing folder for some extra texture, and made a bigger pop of red with my die cut sentiment. This is a really great design that can be used for any occasion. I can't wait to do it again!

I was absolutely intrigued by the colourful, grid background in my inspiration card. I love geometrics and I love ink blending, so I grabbed a stencil and 4 inks and created my background. 

I added green to my background since I knew I wouldn't be able to add a green parrot and I cut out a circle from the centre. I added Stardust stickles to all the edges for a bit of sparkle.

I inlaid my pink circle and that solid colour helped to make my die cut birthday sentiment stand out.

I love geometric backgrounds (especially this geo circle pattern) because they are so versatile - my inspiration is pretty pink with dainty dots and scallops, perfect for a baby girl. I punched up the colours, made my dots bigger (and die cuts rather than embossed), and added a high-contrast sentiment with gems for a birthday card perfect for my nephew's fiancee's birthday card.

I love this floral wreath in graduated colours, and I even have those dies, but I decided to try something a little different.

I used my Altenew stampwheel to stamp the first layer of 4-petal flowers with one of the shapes from a Geo Flower Builder stamp set. Then I turned the stamp to create 8-petal flowers, and stamped them all again, and again, to get lots of contrast and a layered look, with the exact same colours.

MODIFY: colours to reds/greens, 2 shades of each colour for dimension, stenciling instead of stamping, metallic embossed sentiment in the centre

I remember this old Stampin' Up set - it's really pretty and versatile, as Jessica showed with her two ATCs with reversed colour schemes.

Blue and brown are completely out of my comfort zone, and it's Christmas card making time, so I went with a more festive colour combination. I blended my inks through a small 4 layered mandala stencil from Waffle Flower and then cut it with the coordinating dies. 

My flourish background is a tone-on-tone stenciled pattern using my 2 red inks with gold watercolour splattered over top.

My sentiment is gold embossing on Inca gold cardstock, and as a finishing touch, I added gold pearls. 

Geo Color Block

 Have you ever found a product you love so much, you think you could use just it for the rest of your cardmaking life? 

This one may be it for me. These little geometric colour block dies from Spellbinders are versatile. You can make so many patterns, and you can create a card for any occasion just by changing the colours and textures, colouring techniques and sentiments (or by not using all the pieces every time). 

They come in lots of shapes, and they are a BARGAIN! (and if you like cutting a lot of them to create patterns, I suggest buying more than one to make it go faster! lol!)

I think by inkblending these petals with two shades on each 'ring', they almost look like embroidery and these ones are definitely going into my 'black label' pile. That's the pile of my favourites, that I keep for me to send myself, rather than selling or donating to others.

I created this background with a new coverplate. It's a 3x4 grid, but it was easy to adapt to 3x3 with some sharp scissors. I blended ink on each petal on both endes, to create the look of dimension. I inlaid each petal and centre before removing the die cut frame to use on another card. 

I cut and coloured my Waffle Flower 'friend with flowers' image with Copic colours that match the CP inks (for a FREE chart of my best Copic matches to all of Catherine's ink colours, click here).

When I was finished, I had lots of left over pieces from the coverplate die cuts so I made two more cards:

HOT Summer Geo-designs (and Pretty Pink Posh blog hop!)

Good morning! I'm excited to be part of the Pretty Pink Posh blog hop this morning, with some summery, geometric cards!

I focused on a couple of the new stencils with simple square and circle shapes and came up with 5 very different looks. Here's a link to my video:

I started by stamping the Birch Press Crystal Lingo slimline background twice on my square panel, using Fade Out ink and leaving a white strip in the centre.

I masked each area and blended ink into it, using Lime Rickey, Aquatini, Fiesta Blue, Suede Shoes, Flirty Fuschia. When it was all blended, I spritzed shimmer spray over it.

I finished the card with a large Waffle Flower Birthday sentiment stamped with Versafine ink.

Geo-thanks with Stencils 360!

These two cards show how I found a new way to love my Stencils 360 tool!

Instead of blending ink through the smallest of the Sacred Lotus stencils, I used felt tipped pens which had firm nibs. I did the black one first, and then I did the rainbow. Love the 'spirograph' look!

I finished them both with offset ciricle mats, one with blended inks, and the other plain black. I added a simple thanks sentiment and pearls for some shine and dimension.
