TO107 - Spring

Two more cards for the current Time Out Challenge, where the theme is Spring.

This is another card that I started at Tracey's house.  And here's the reason I didn't get it finished - too much laughing! Just kidding - spending time with Kim, Joyce and Tracey was a real treat!

While I was at Tracey's, I started by stamping the girl, masking her umbrella and then I added the boy. I stamped a few clouds and my sentiment. I coloured their faces and hair with Copic markers and then it was time for me to come home.

At home the next day, I sketched in the sidewalk with pencil and then masked the clouds so that I could have the sun peeking through. Then I finished the colouring, including the sidewalk with Copics.

When that was done, I masked everything and blended inks for the sky and ground.

And then I was exhausted and had another cute (but much easier) idea using the same stamps.

SSSWC, TO82 - Happy Mother's Day

Oh, I am in love with this tulip! I'm linking up to Simon's Wednesday Challenge (Anything Goes) and the current flower challenge at Time Out.

I stamped rows of the flowers in Versafine Onyx before embossing with clear powder. Last time, I coloured the flower with Copics, but this time I used Zig CleanColor Real Brush Markers. So soft and pretty! For some dimension and interest I cut 3 of the flowers with the matching die and then popped them up.

I chose this card as my inspiration:

I focused on:
-floral theme
-cut out for sentiment

I changed:
- technique (from markers to distress ink stamping)
-layout
-added back a white panel in my sentiment cut out

I am also linking up to the current Time Out challenge - flowers.

I call this 'no-watercolour-watercolouring'. This is a variation on a technique from Shari here. This lovely sketchy floral stamp set (Golden Garden) has no corresponding solid stamps, so I used solid stamps from another set (Mini Blossoms). I chose a solid stamp that kinda-sorta fit the image I was stamping. I knew this would give me a loose watercolour feel and I purposely did not emboss the outline stamps, so that the ink could go outside the lines sometimes.  Each solid stamp was inked with distress ink and then misted before stamping. Each area was stamped with more than one colour, to create blending and interest.

Here's a quick video of part of the process. This was the second time I did this, and you can see that I was using more water than in the card above. This resulted in softer colours. Also, notice the point at which I realize that my Mowed Lawn and Peeled Paint ink cubes got mixed up!
