Watermelon Wrap Around Treat Box feat. Sunny Studio - Two Many Cards

I'm excited that Emily asked me to be a guest this month for her Two Many Cards series, where we each share our take on the same set of products.

Today we are using the Wrap Around Box, Slice of Summer Stamp set and Summer Splash patterned paper from Sunny Studio.

I created a watermelon-themed gift set, adding windows to the box, so that the recipient can get a peek at what's inside the Wrap Around Box.

I matched the watermelon patterned paper with some of my favourite Catherine Pooler Inks so that the box and thank you card coordinate perfectly!

EBE Leading Ladies - Teacher Lady

I'm back with a card using the other new Essentials by Ellen Leading Lady - Teacher Lady! This set is perfect for all your teacher-card needs!

I created a frame of "excellent" reports using masking and coloured them with Copic markers. I coloured the teacher and cut her out with matching dies and popped her up.

My background was coloured with Toner Gray markers (inside and outside of the frame) and then I pounced dots with my Colorless Blender marker to create a sparkly effect.

Coffee Lovers' Blog Hop (SPD)

Don't you just love the size of the coffee compared to the woman? I know many coffee drinkers feel like this!

I started with a craft panel and created a frame with the line of beans. I cut the cup and sleeve and stamped the sentiment and 'caffeine addict' label.  Next, I stamped and die cut my coffee-drinker. Here's a video of the copic colouring.

CASology 152 - Nautical

This week's CASology Cue Card is Nautical!



I used stencilling, sponging and masking to make this card. Not your most CAS techniques, but the result is still CAS because of the clean simple lines and all the white space.

I started by masking a horizontal line on the panel. I positioned my Simon Says Stamp stencil and then used post-it tape to mask off the top of the waves I wanted to use. I sponged that area with Peacock Feathers and Chipped Sapphire distress inks and then removed the stencil. I created a circle stencil with post-it tape and sponged on Mustard Seed and Ripe Persimmon (masking the top of the wave).

I finished the card with part of a CASual Fridays birthday sentiment. It seemed appropriate for this summery/vacation card and I think I'll give it to one of Kate's teachers this week on her last day.

Teacher Thank You (8)

One final set of thank yous to give to one of Kate's teachers. This one was simple, but fun and full of graphic visual impact.

I masked each card front and sponged the main distress ink colour (that's Twisted Citrus on the middle-right card) before sponging the next shade near the bottom. As I worked my way down the rainbow (I started with Mustard Seed and Spiced Marmalade), I realized that I would have a hard time finding a darker shade than Dusty Concord, so I started again with Mustard Seed and added Twisted Citrus. The only one I had trouble with blending was Twisted Citrus to Salty Ocean (middle right) - maybe the difference in shades was too great and I should have used Peacock Feathers or even Mowed Lawn as the darker shade.

For my sentiment, I lined up the letters from Stampin' Up's new Layered Alphabet on my MISTI and finished the 12 cards (two of each colour) quickly.

Teacher Thank You Cards (6&7)

Two more teacher thank yous today (I'm running out of time!!!!) The first one uses the new Simon Says Stamp/WPlus9 Many Thanks set. I absolutely could not seem to make roses that looked pretty (I need to find a tutorial somewhere on both positioning and colour combinations. PLEASE let me know if you know where that lives!), and, feeling the time pressure, went back to a basic colour scheme and layout. I used the sentiment and one of the little dots and my MISTI to whip up 24 of these ones - 12 each for the art and gym teacher.

The second card uses a sentiment from a Christmas set from Simon Says Stamp, Handlettered Winter Wishes. I summered it up with some watercoloured flowers using a Taylored Expressions flower die and some leaves from MFT's Fresh-cut flowers die set.

CASology 151 - Kids

This week's CASology Cue Card is Kids



At this time of year (here in North America), kids are getting ready for summer holidays. This old A Muse bus stamp is perfect for an 'end of year' card. I feel like I've make this card before. To change it up a bit, I tilted the bus to create a bit of movement and a feeling of fun! I also chose a different sentiment this year - an old Stampin' Up stamp (Road to Happiness) that seemed appropriate.

Watercolour Blog Hop (Teacher Thank you 5)

Pretty Pink Posh is hosting a Watercolour blog hop today. Make sure you visit for all the details.

I'm still working away on the teacher thank you sets and thought it would be fun to play some more with my Zig Clean Color watercolour markers. The process was the same for all my colour combinations (see below) - I started by scribbling a dot of my centre colour and then drew a ring of the outside colour about the size of my Ellen Hutson Bold Blooms rose. Then I simply used my waterpen to blend the colours. I then die cut the roses, but when it came time to pop out the extra bits, I really didn't want to lose the intensity of the beautifully bold colours, so I just left them all in. I finished the card with a big and bold Papertrey sentiment.

Teacher Thank You Cards (3&4)

How about some more thank you cards that I'm making for the teachers? Today's theme is floral. And MISTI - so easy to get everything lined up many times when you use it!

For the first card, I used Papertrey's Flower Favorites stamped in shades of grey. I put some Stickles in the flower centres, but it just looks dirty in the photos. In real life, these are soft and pretty with a hint of sparkle.

Next, I pulled out Paper Smooches Reflections along with a new Hero Arts sentiment. I made it in two colours. (linking up to Paper Smooches Sparks challenge - Anything Goes).

Teacher Thank You Cards (1&2)

After 12 years of being involved in my kids' elementary school, I'm finally 'graduating' (along with Kate, who will go to middle school in September). Over the years I have volunteered in all sorts of ways for all sorts of activities and have been the School Council Chair and Treasurer for most of the time. This is going to be a big change - we have built relationships with staff and teachers that we will remember for ever!

I decided to make sets of 3.5x5 thank you cards for Kate's teachers and of course, have left it quite late. So I'm relying on a lot of you to inspire me with beautiful but simple designs for these cards.

The first card was inspired by this card by Shelly. I used the 'other' CFC flower and die from the set and left it white (I actually shaded it with a very, very pale grey and coated it with WoS, which is very shimmery and pretty IRL).

My iris card was inspired by Joyce's card here. I really put my MISTI to good use with this - it made stamping multiple cards with lined-up stamps a breeze! After I stamped the flowers, I used the matching die to make a mask out of Post-it tape so that I could lightly sponge Tumbled Glass around the big iris blossom. SO much easier than the fussy cutting I did for this card!

On another note, I want to thank those of you who have noticed that the latest OCC has a very familiar name! I love the colourful logo and of course I am partial to the way they've used the word MASK in it (although my MASK has personal meaning and is not related to any cardmaking techniques). I have really gotten a kick out of seeing some of you mention my name in connection with it - so nice to feel known and loved in our little part of blog land!

CASology 47 - Wheels!

Today's CASology Cue Card is Wheels!

It's time (in Toronto, anyway) to start thinking about year-end teacher thank yous and gifts. As I went through all my stamps to see what 'wheels' I had, I came across this old Lizzie Anne Designs school bus. I decided to stamp it going off the page and coloured it with Copics. Then, I added a little 'gravel' (unknown little swirl) spraying in the air due to its quick departure.

I used a Paper Smooches Shadows long oval stamp to create the shadow under the bus and keep it from floating in space! Added a simple Paper Smooches sentiment and was amazed at how well all these different stamps worked together to create (let's face it) a very, very happy scene!

CASology 6 - SCHOOL!

Here in Ontario, our kids don't go back to school until after Labour Day, but it doesn't mean we're not longing for, (oops, did I say that out loud?), I mean dreading, but valiantly getting ready for Back to School.

This week's CASology Cue Card is SCHOOL!

I can never resist a good rainbow - whatever form it takes - and crayons are the perfect way to include a lot of colour into a black and white card. I chose to use only the tips of the crayons, to leave lots of white space and keep the card feeling very open. I often use a black card base to provide definition and contrast - I line the inside of the card with another white panel, so that it's easy to write a message to the recipient.

I used Stampin' Up's Crayon Fun alpha, and a crayon from an old clear set. I coloured the crayons with copics, and used shading on the labels to create the illusion of dimension.
