Happy Halloween

Congratulations to this week's Featured Stamper, Deb (djahner)

I chose this card as my inspiration:

Last week, I did a video showing how I break down an inspiration card and make it my own. I created an easy to remember acronym to help:

List: Deb has 3 pumpkins on white tag backgrounds, halloween theme, sentiment strip, embossed background, colours are white, orange, green, blue

Include: Halloween theme, sentiment strip

Modify: Changed the layout from 3 horizontal elements to 4 in a grid (to better fit my card format),  changed stamped pumpkins to die-cut skeletons, used the spider webs as the tag element, black background instead of white, add purple

Exclude: pumpkins, tags, blue

Spin: I spritzed the background with pewter distress spray and added the spider.

I cut 2 large and 2 small webs from Essentials by Ellen Spiderwebs (and the little spider - he's too cute to leave out!), and used Catherine Pooler inks direct to paper to colour them. I spritzed them and my black card base with Distress Spray in Pewter.

The 4 skulls are from the new Skellie-Add On die set that was released on Friday.

The sentiment is from last year's Good to the Last Bite.

Merry Little Christmas

Congratulations to this week's Featured Stamper, Jacqueline!

I chose this card as my inspiration:

I focused on Jacqueline's:
-Christmas bird theme
-branches
-warm wishes sentiment
-snow flake background

I changed:
-die cut (only one) bird, branch and snow background
-slimline card

This card features some soon-to-be-released products from Essentials by Ellen! I created my background with 3 tags from Tag Trio, and I used the new Twirling Flurries die on them. This cuts a sparkly pattern into the background, without cutting an outline shape. I blended inks onto them, and stamped a pattern from Warmest Wishes at the bottom.

My bird and branch are from the new Twelve Days die set and the sentiment is from the new Warmest Wishes stamp set that is designed to work with the Tag Trio (but it's perfect here on a card, I think!).

Here are some other slimline cards I created with some more new goodies - more details on the Ellen Hutson blog!

Trick or Treat!

I was talking with a stampy friend the other day, and she said she thought I could probably make a card with 3 strips of masking tape. I took it as a little challenge, although not literally. I used 2 strips! And a fun die from Trinity Stamps, so maybe that was cheating, just a little!

I started with a square panel of white cardstock, and I masked half an inch on each side of the centre. I blended Sauna and Mandarin Spice ink, fading out to the centre to create a little dimension.

Then I masked a half inch on each side and blended with Mandarin Spice. I kept going on both sides until the panel was fully blended.

I used the jack-o-lantern face from the Trinity Stamps Harvest Candy and Flower Pumpkin Bucket set and then I stamped a sentiment from Autumn SeSentiments.

I used a circle die to cut my 'pumpkin' out and then popped it up with foam tape over a black card base.

FS657 - Happy Halloween

Congratulations to this week's Splitcoaststampers Featured Stamper, Rebecca (rlsnyder)! I chose this card as my inspiration:

I focused on:
-layout
-seasonal creature
-gem embellishment

I changed:
-Christmas to Halloween
-technique
-added a sentiment

I started by creating a multi-colour background with 1 stamp, 3 colours of ink and my MISTI. I inked the top of the stamp with Flirty Fuschia, dabbed the 'edge' of the ink with my finger then stamped it down. Then I inked the middle with Juniper Mist, dabbed both edges and stamped it down. Finally, Black Jack on the bottom of the stamp. Dabbing the edges of the ink allows the colours to blend a bit better.

Next, I stamped this new Dino (available Sunday, Sept 8), starting with his mask then masking the mask to stamp the dino and then adding his pumpkin treat basket. I coloured him with Copics and added highlights with a white gel pen. I cut him out with the coordinating die and coloured the white edges with copics so he wouldn't stand out from my night-sky background too much.

I stamped the tiny spider in the top corner and used a small black Pretty Pink Posh Glossy Black gem as his body.

Finally, I stamped the sentiment with Gina K Obsidian ink.

Pretty Pink Posh August Release Blog Hop - Day 1

Welcome to Day 1 of the Pretty Pink Posh August release Blog Hop! Details are below!

I have two very simple but fun cards today. The first one uses the new Spider Web stencil and white ink to create a spooky background. Rather than centering the stencil on the black panel, I put the centre in each corner, to create 4 spider webs.

Then I used the BOO dies to cut out the letters from white cardstock and I blended Melon Ice ink from the bottom, fading to white at the top. I stamped a couple of the spiders and die cut the 3rd one so that he could spin and slide along the hole in the middle 'o'. To give these guys some 'body', I used 3 of the largest Glossy Black Jewels for some dimension and shine.

The next card is a pop-art take using the new Sunflower set, along with a partial sentiment from Fall Signs.

I masked off 4 squares and stamped the smallest sunflower in the centre of each. Then I used the matching die to create a mask from a full-back sticky note before blending ink into each square. I chose matching Copic markers for the flower centres and then added matching jewels for sparkle.

I did some very minimal colouring of the 'background' petals on the sunflower, with a pale gray Copic marker.

Congratulations to this week's Splitcoaststampers' Featured Stamper, Jennifer (jenniferstamp04)!

I chose this card as my inspiration:

I focused on Jennifer's:
-pumpkins and cats
-popped up sentiment

I changed:
-fewer pumpkins and cats
-day time to night time

I stamped the pumpkins then masked them to stamp the cats 'behind' them. I blended Catherine Pooler inks for the night sky and used Copics to colour the pumpkins and the ground. I used a white gel pen for the cats' eyes.

Art Impressions Hop

Good morning! Some of the Ellen Hutson Design Ambassadors are hopping today to give you a look at some fun new products from Art Impressions, available at Ellen Hutson LLC.

Let me start by linking you to a video by Sandy Allnock, where she shows very clearly how the mechanisms work. These cards have parts that move when you pull the tab. And they are adorable!

I simply coloured them with copics and kept their backgrounds quite simple so that all the focus is on the adorable critters!

Be sure to hop for more inspiration:

Kind of Batty Release Blog Hop - Day 3

Welcome to Day 3 Blog Hop for the Kind of Batty Release from Catherine Pooler Designs.

Today I'm featuring some of the Hallowe'en products. My first card uses the new Who's There Cover Plate in an unusual way - I cut the whole thing, and then used circle dies to create little faces from the sets of eyes. I coloured them with CP inks (Melon Ice, Lime Rickey, Flirty Fuschia, Concord Crush, Orange Twist, Rockin' Red) and backed them smaller pieces of cardstock inked with Limoncello so that the eyes 'glow' and popped them up onto a panel that was blended with Black Jack ink (and not very neatly or smoothly - I wanted a foggy, atmospheric look). I stamped my bats and sentiment with Midnight ink.

My next two cards feature the Going Batty Background stamp - it's really easy to get a lot of different looks from this stamp - the Creative Team has a ton more inspiration, but here's a quick video (don't you love the spooky eyes? White gel pen!):

Muse 238 - If the Hat Fits....

Here's my card for this week's Muse Challenge, where Kim brought us a sweet Halloween Inspiration:

I focused on Kim's:
-Hallowe'en theme
-Colours (black, orange, yellow and white)
-graphic black stripes

I created a very (VERY) simple watercolour wash background with Zig Art & Graphic Twin Tip markers on Bristol. The markers blend really easily on this smooth paper with just a bit of water.

SugarPea Designs Release Sweet Peeks Day 3

I knew you'd be back! It's Day 3 of SugarPea Designs' Sweet Peek Week and today it's all about Hallowe'en, with the cutest monsters around!

First up the vampire! I couldn't resist making him sparkle on a sunny day (we all know now that vampires sparkle in sunlight - that's why they have to live in rainy Washington State! lol!). I used the Starburst coverplate as a stencil with distress ink and some Stickles.

Next, a spooky graveyard scene using the new SpookyScape die. The sentiments in this set are punny and funny - you'll love mixing and matching them!

Be sure to drop by all the DT Members' blogs for more inspiration and a chance to win (details on the SugarPea Designs blog)!
