One-Layer Snowflake Frame

Congratulations to this week's Featured Stamper, Kristin!

I chose this card as my inspiration:

LIST: Colours (pink, white, monochromatic), Technique (stamping, wax paper background), Elements (simple white shape (heart) on coloured background, textured 'frame')

INCLUDE: monochromatic, simple shape, textured 'frame'

MODIFY: colours to blue/green, heart to snowflake, technique for frame, offset shape

EXCLUDE: sentiment, wax paper technique

SPIN: square card
Christmas is a great time for one-layer, easy-to-mail cards. I created this one by die cutting the snowflake and square frame from masking paper, before blending my ink over top. I added some bronze splatter over top.

Last Chance for the Card Maker Success Summit!

The countdown is ON! The Card Maker Success Summit starts Wednesday night!

This is my 3rd time presenting at the Summit and I can't wait to get this party started!
This is a sneak peek at some of the cards we'll be making. My class on Thursday is about using alcohol inks with your stencils - the results are totally fool proof, often give 2-for-1 designs and even work with clean and simple cards! And don't worry, I've got loads of clean-up tips too! (No alcohol inks? No worries. I have a method for getting the look with inks you already have!)

Lots of my crafty friends are also presenting, and you can take a look at the speaker lineup to start planning your days. Also plan to come to Wednesday’s kickoff call to get a jumpstart on all the fun!

Heaven & Nature

Congratulations to this week's Featured Stamper, Cheryl!

I chose this card as my inspiration:

LIST: Colours (grey, gold, white, pink), Techniques (die cuts, stamping), Elements (stars, sentiment strip, patterned paper)

INCLUDE: star focal point on dark background

MODIFY: Technique (I masked my star, ink blended the background), changed occasion from New Years to Christmas, sentiment strip closer to bottom

EXCLUDE: pink and gold, patterned paper

I used a star mask in the centre of my galaxy sky, before blending bright inks around the centre of the star and then working my through darker inks as I moved out toward the edges. I spritzed the sky with water, white ink spray and clear shimmer spray to create texture and stars.

Quick Rainbow Christmas

Rainbow for Christmas? Yes, please!

I love simple designs that work for any occasion. This card is so quick and easy to make with whatever inks you have.  Just swipe stripes for a colourful, happy background and then add black accents (die cuts or stamps work equally well!).  Change the colours (or not!) for another occasion, too!

And don't forget about the Card Maker Success Summit! It starts next week, Thursday, July 28 and runs all weekend, with 25+ speakers (and even more fun techniques!) including some of my favourite crafty people:

  • Justine Hovey
  • Daniel West
  • Tiffany Solorio
  • Ishani
  • Therese Calvird
as well as some new friends, too! My class is on Thursday and is about using Alcohol Inks with stencils.

Inspired by HowSweetEats

I'm taking a quick break from Christmas in July to show that inspiration is all around us! I found this photo on Instagram and knew I had to give this colour blend a try!

I masked off the sides of a panel of white cardstock and blended Dress Blues, Glam, Cranberry Fizz and Pucker Up ink, letting it fade to white at the top, just like the drink. I added a Crafty Meraki branch and used some Crafty Meraki Fairy Garden gems as my ice cubes, although maybe they look like the bubbles in the soda! lol!

Mistletoe Joy

Congratulations to this week's Featured Stamper, Candy!

I chose this card as my inspiration:

LIST: Colours (monochrome shades of brown, orange, ochre, copper, white), Techniques (stamping, colouring), Elements (downward branch with leaves, horizontal copper stripe, twine bow, stamped sentiment, circular woodgrain patterned paper)

INCLUDE: downward branch, stamped sentiment, basic layout

MODIFY: I changed the occasion to Christmas by changing the colours to red, pink and white. die cut instead of stamping, added berries to the branch, moved circular element to focal panel, twine became metallic horizontal element

EXCLUDE: patterned paper

I die cut my olive branch and turned it for a more 'mistletoe' feel. I added berries in shades of red and pink.
The background was blended with the same colours as the berries, from dark on the top and bottom to pale in the centre, to give a 'horizontal' feel to the background. I wrapped the background with some gold twine for my metallic element and popped up the background and then the circular focal panel for some dimension.

Don't forget about the Card Maker Success Summit, July 28-31! Your free ticket is waiting for you HERE!

Celebrate the Season

It's time to Celebrate the Season! Spellbinders has some new holiday goodies and I had fun using them to make these two very different Christmas Cards.

This one uses a new sentiment set which is quickly becoming a favourite - that fun font for the large Merry Christmas, along with all the little add-ons is a real one-stop-shop for holiday sentiments! I used a monochrome colour scheme in various shades of red.

The white panel was embossed with a new embossing folder, and then splattered with gold to tie it in with the embossed sentiment.

This one uses a die set with little lights, bells and bows and I took a minimalist approach by using only 3 of the lights and part of the string. I coloured the lights with Copic markers, and then coated them with Nuvo Crystal Glaze and some chunky iridescent glitter. My background was ink blended with deep blue inks on white cardstock and for the 'glow' around each light, I blended a little white pigment ink.

Merry Christmas Ornaments

Congratulations to this week's Featured Stamper, Bonnie (raduse).

I chose this card as my inspiration:

LIST: Colours (red, yellow, blue, white), Techniques (stamping, fussy cutting), Elements (stamped sunflowers with interesting centres and two of them popped up, red frame, black stamped sentiment on an angle, splatter).

INCLUDE: Colours (red, yellow, blue, white), shapes with interesting centres, black stamped sentiment on an angle.

MODIFY: added green, sunflowers to ornaments, landscape to portrait, sentiment on popped up die cut instead of two of the shapes, white frame instead of red

EXCLUDE: splatter

I had fun with this card, but it took some work! lol! I die cut all the ornaments, then blended 3 colours of ink on each to create some dimension. I added little silver 'toppers' and a stacked up Merry Christmas sentiment which was stamped in black and heat embossed with glittery embossing powder. Finished with some iridescent dewdrops. Doesn't sound like much work after all, does it?! lol!

Peace, Joy & Love

Congratulations to this week's Featured Stamper, stampinspooky!

I chose this card as my inspiration:

LIST: Colours (Yellow, white), Techniques (stamping), Elements (offset, partial medallion, stitched ribbon, stickles/glitter, solid colour horizontal panel, die cut sentiment)

INCLUDE: partial medallion, solid colour panel

MODIFY: vertical rather than horizontal layout, Christmas card, green instead of yellow, die cut 'stitching', stencil mandala instead of stamping, 2 for 1 design, narrower strip of solid colour

EXCLUDE: ribbon, oval die cut for sentiment

SPIN: stencil spinning technique

I created a mandala wreath with my Stencils 360 tool, and then cut it in half for a 2 for 1 design. I added a strip of cardstock I had coloured with my ink pad, and die cut some stitching holes. I added a simple stamped sentiment and gold satin pearls on one, to stay true to the monochrome colours of my inspiration, but couldn't resist the pops of red pearls on the other!

I also made a square card with more of the mandala design:
