CASology 162 - Write

This is my second post today. For my One-Layer Simplicity card, please scroll down.

This week's CASology Cue Card is Write.

I didn't actually write this, but it looks like I did, doesn't it? The sentiment is from a company called Paper Sushi, and the little flower is from Altenew's Doodle Blooms.

To make sure that everything worked together, I chose stamps that had similar line widths - this helps to unify the design, and in this case, make it look like I might have written and then hand-drawn the two elements.

I stamped it in Versamark (because it is the crispest, darkest black ink I have), but I did not emboss it with clear embossing powder as I usually do, in order to really make it look handwritten.

CASology 160 - Number

This week's CASology Cue Card is Number!

I don't know about you, but I'm getting to an age where the numbers are a little too big for my liking! Getting older is definitely better than the alternative, though, isn't it?!

I used MFT's Piece of Cake set to make this card; it has so many fantastic 'getting older' sentiments.  I love the way the candles are 'counting' the birthdays. I created a bit of interest by framing my image with the two parts of my sentiment.

CASology 115 - Chocolate

This week's CASology Cue Card is Chocolate!

I decided to use only a chocolatey colour for my card (I guess the cake might be chocolate, too!). I used a Stampin' Up birthday set and left the image un-coloured. This results in a card that has a very airy feel because the white space 'shows through'!

I have started something new for popping up my image panel. I find that my foam tape 'shows' through (a bit like joists sometimes showing through a white ceiling). So I figured I would open my ever-expanding white scrap drawer and just layer the front panel with 2 or 3 squares of cardstock slightly smaller than the top panel. It really isn't much heavier than it would have been if I'd used the foam tape, but the look is better (in my humble opinion!) and it's using up scraps!

i {heart} papers GD post 10/CS210 - Happy Birthday to You!

Here's my card for the current CASE Study challenge, where we are inspired by this pretty Christmas card by Debby Hughes:

I flipped the layout upside down and changed it to a birthday card, swapping out the gold for some yellow and black. After stamping and colouring the balloons, I used a Versamark pen and embossed them in clear for some shine.

CASE Study 208/ABNH51 - Thanks so much!

Here's a card I managed to make for two challenges, CASE Study, where our inspiration is this fun card from Debby

 and A Blog Named Hero, where the challenge is to use letter stamps (I used Hero Arts Typewriter Alphabet (CL492)).



I used PTI Super Stripes stamped in Soft Stone ink to represent the boards, a red PTI thanks die cut for the apples, and the HA Typewriter alpha for the rest of the sentiment.  Three tiny kraft hearts (Impression Obsession) for the colour and texture of the burlap.

CS199 - Butterfly Thank You

Look who finally got her PTI butterfly dies?! ME! So excited to finally join 'the club' and be able to make pretty cards with these dies! This week's CASE Study is the perfect opportunity! Here's the inspiration:

I focused on the colours, the circles, and the butterfly (YAY!) I coloured the dots of the wings with copics before laying them back in (using tape on the back to hold them) and then added some glossy accents for dimension and shine.

ETA: Well, I missed the deadline, so this card is not in the CASE Study gallery. Still, I'm glad I made the card - it's definitely different than my usual!

CASE Study 197 - Happy Birthday!

A quick CAS card for this week's CASE Study Challenge, where our inspiration comes from Pamela Ho and this card:



I find orange and black hard to work with. Somehow it always screams Hallowe'en to me. So I looked back at Pamela's to figure out why hers wasn't screaming Hallowe'en. And it's because (in my humble opinion) the black isn't black. Because she's used vellum, it's grey. But it shows black around the orange dot because of the way the vellum is cut. AHA!

I can't remember where that little circle sentiment came from, but I'll hold onto it forever because every once in a while, it's really useful!

The bigger dot is from Simon Says Stamp and the bling is Doodlebug.

CS194 - Happy Birthday, James!

Two of our nephews are turning 4 soon, so I used this week's CAS(E) Study card as my inspiration for the first one:

I used primary colours and stacked my (new Lawnfawn) letters up rather than leaving the negatives.

CTS76 - You're the Best!

A clean and graphic card for this week's CAS(E) This Sketch challenge:

And also inspired by this photo on Pinterest:

Although I felt like I really needed to add a pop of colour!

I started by die cutting the thanks with PTI dies out of the white panel and then added the Technique Tuesday 'you'. 'You're the best' came from a Clearly Besotted sentiment stamp.

Another great week of inspiration at CASE Study, where Wida is this month's guest. Here's this week's inspiration card:

I turned the layout 90 degrees to the left and used white die cuts glued onto the white panel and a whimsical Wordsworth sentiment.I love the crisp look of the white on white!

I stuck with just the red and white so that I could also link it up to Festive Friday - there's still a few days before the deadline on Wednesday - hope to see you there!

CS190 - Happy Birthday!

This is my card for this week's CASE Study, where our inspiration once again comes from the extremely talented and creative Wida:

I focused on the stripes on the background, the floral die cut and the horizontal sentiment. Wida's strips of polka-dots behind the flower immediately made me think of Papertrey's building blocks die - I cut it out of my front panel and then turned it so I could fit my Altenew sentiment into one of the strips. I used my favourite groovy PTI flower die, sponged in warm colours of various distress inks.

CASE Study 189 - Happy 40th Birthday!

Another morning of inspiration! As I was scrolling through my reader, I came across this pretty card by this month's CASE Study Muse, Wida:

My friend asked me to make a 40th birthday card for her friend, so I used the 40 as the repeating motif on the background. I put my colour on the inside of the frame and punched up the size of the sentiment.

CASE Study 188 - Thank you!

My creativity has been lagging lately - my recycling bin is full of ideas that just didn't work. This happens to me from time to time - a period of time where nothing seems to be inspiring and nothing seems to be working. I find the best way to 'cure' it, is to just keep creating and looking around.  And then this morning, I was scrolling through my Feedly and this week's CASE Study Challenge, appeared, where our inspiration is this beautiful collage card made with stickers by Jaclyn. I knew immediately what I wanted to make! And it only took me two tries to get something I'm happy to post!

I used a Simon Says Stamp sentiment, curved on the acrylic block, and a graphic butterfly from My Stamp Box.

CASE Study 176 - Thank you!

The fabulous Donna is this month's guest at CASE Study and I can't get enough! Here's the inspiration for this week:

The gold looks so elegant with the bold pink. I used a flower from Stampin' Up and an unknown thank you and shrunk the focal point a bit to make it a little cleaner.

CASE Study175, Muse 51 - Happy 50th Birthday!

Next in the Birthday Card Factory! This one's for my husband, Michael, who is turning 50 next week. I used Donna's Case Study card as inspiration:

The Papertrey numbers and letters are actually silver foil paper from Stampin' Up, they give a nice shine. And I used the colours from this week's Muse Anniversary challenge (there's still time to play along - the deadline is Monday morning at 8 am EST. Come check it out!)

CASE Study 174 - Thank you!

This month's Guest at CASE Study is one of my all time favourite cardmakers - Donna Mikasa. Her cards make it in into my Pinterest Inspiration board A LOT! Here's this week's Inspiration card:

I focused on the sponging and the handwritten feel of the 'cool'. But I also used what I suspect is one of Donna's favourite colour combinations (although she often uses them on a craft card rather than white). I embossed the Paper Sushi sentiment and then sponged various distress inks over top. I then stamped the dots in the same colours of ink to create a tone-on-tone look.

CASE Study 150 - Take two. Or is that three?

Another one for this week's gorgeous CASE Study.

This time I kept the scale the same as the inspiration, but made it a little lighter and airier by using outline shapes from The Stamps of Life. I also managed to get the many-pointed star in the centre, which I filled with a sentiment also from The Stamps of Life.

I think in the end, I voted with most of you on my favourite from yesterday - the sketchy circles just added something to that very simple design.

And now it's time for me to get on with some of the organization/tidy up projects that have sat on my list for months, waiting for the summer (which is zooming by, don't you think?)

CASE Study 150 - Thank you

CASE Study is another challenge I haven't played along with for a long time. But this week's card by the talented Jocelyn Olson  is just begging to be cased, don't you think?

So I made two. And now I can't decide which one I like better!

Three CAS Challenges

Three CAS challenges today!

The inspiration for the treatment of the Michael's sentiment was inspired by this photo on my Inspiration Board on Pinterest:

I thought the off the edge words were interesting.

Put it all together, and this is what I got! I used the new Papertrey set Super Stripes. The stripes are almost 7" long, so that you can stamp diagonally across the front of a 5.5x4.25 card. Here's the question, though - does anyone have an acrylic block that long? I don't - I just stamped away, with the 'tail' of the stamp hanging off the edge of the block. Actually, I suppose you could use a Cuttlebug B or C plate as a block - I'd love to hear if you have any other ideas!

CASE Study #94

Can you see that I've embossed a one-inch strip down each side with my grosgrain texture plate? I really, really need to get better at this picture-taking stuff!
