CTS20 - Birthday Blues

It's Thursday, and that means CAS(E) This Sketch time! This week's sketch is by Jackie:

When I started this card, I had a 4x4 white panel, which I was going to put on a navy blue card base. How predictably "Ardyth", right? Sometimes you have to try something that isn't quite 'your style' so that you don't get into a big rut!

So I cut the two blue panels and the cardbase and thought that since the white panel is bottom-left -heavy with the image and sentiment, I would lift it by matting the layers high and right - it's certainly a little more interesting than plunking it all down in the centre. What do you think?

Anyway, enough philosophy of design....now it's your turn. The Design Team has lots of inspiration for you and then I can't wait to see what you come up with! Don't forget to link up before the deadline next Tuesday at noon!

  1. Wow! The blue panels are wonderful. It still says Ardyth, but with a bit of a twist! And while I'm not one for the ombre look, yours totally rocks! Another wondercard. Bev

  3. Great idea, Ardy! I hadn't even noticed the unusual matting until you mentioned it; I think because of the angle of the photo. It is still beloved "Ardyth" and that is not a bad thing!!

I think it's awesome that you have such a distinct and recognizable style. But it's fun if you throw us for a loop every now and then, too. Any way you slice it, it will be magnificent work! Now get on with your bad self and keep 'em coming!

  6. Love the off-centre matting & the graduated candle. I think it qualifies for Muse too - the colours & the stripey effect of the sentiment. Jenny

  8. It's still definitely an Ardyth design :) I love the ombré effect on the sentiment. It also qualifies for Moxie Fab World ombré challenge.

  9. Terrific b.d. card! Like your take on the sketch and the way you staggered your layers and did not center all the layers. Cool! :) The SCS CC418 called for three blues and a neutral. Maybe you could add your card to the gallery?

  14. What a fantastic post! Of course I love your card, but it was so fun to read about your design process. Thank you! LOVE, love that you pushed yourself to do something different. It's hard to do, but I agree keeps you from getting into a routine. This is a perfect example of what we were just talking about ... your #2 rocks. It's so dynamic!

  15. Blues are always gorgeous ... Ardyth style is always a joy to see, even with a different take! Love the focus you've generated on the image and sentiment by skewing the layering ... the ombre matching (candle/HB) is perfect! Anita :)

  16. Hi Ardyth! This is gorgeous - I love the graduating shades of blue you used for your sentiment and candle. Such a great way to carry the theme throughout the card. The layout of the card is perfect as well. I loved reading your thought process behind the layout too - thanks for sharing it with us!!
