Get more from Candle Dies/Geometric Stencil

Welcome to this week's LIMES inspiration post!

I chose this card as my inspiration from the gallery of this week's Splitcoaststampers' Featured Stamper!

LIST: Colours (Blue, white, silver), Techniques (alcohol marker background, stamping & heat embossing), Elements (Hanukkah card, candles, silver sequins, wonky striped background, dots in the background)

INCLUDE: Blue, white, Hanukkah, candles,

MODIFY: background technique (stenciling) and look (grid rather than wonky stripes), wonky candles instead of wonky striped background, added yellow flames and 'glow'

EXCLUDE: sentiment

I love simple designs that work for multiple occasions and candle dies (or candle stamps or candle stencils!) are a great craft-room basic. So are geometric stencils.

I have made Hanukkah cards in the past, but not many. These Catherine Pooler birthday candle dies easily stand in as a hanukkiah. I made the candles a little 'wonky' to pick up on the background in my inspiration card.

Then I went and used the same candle dies, and the same stencil from A Colorful Life Designs to make a Christmas card, and a masculine birthday card.

I think that we sometimes shy away from making cards that we don't receive ourselves, in fact, I think this is why many of us struggle with 'masculine' cards, and maybe cards for holidays we don't celebrate ourselves, but it's a fun way to expand our comfort zone isn't it?

Pretty Pink Posh October Release

The latest Pretty Pink Posh release is live now! We'll be having 2 days of blog hops with TONS of inspiration and prizes too, starting tomorrow.

I made this fun card with a couple of the new stamp sets - Holiday Signs, and Winter Borders.

I started by stamping the bottom row of penguins, masking the centre one so that the other two overlap a bit.

Then I measured how far up I would need to put the top penguin - I felt he should be 'in front' of the middle row. I masked him and the bottom penguins and stamped the two in the middle row.

I coloured all the hats green, to go along with the Christmas tree shape, and then coloured the trim in a rainbow of colours, kind of like ornaments.

I stamped all the messages on the signs, and then I created a negative mask for the sign, and stamped some snowflakes using one of the stamps from Winter Borders and grey ink, so that the sentiments would still be visible.

And this is my first Hanukkah card ever! I started by stamping and embossing the menorah and solid flames with Wow! Embossing ink and Silver Metallic embossing powder.

Once it was cool, I blended Fiesta Blue, Something Borrowed and Suede Shoes over top, fading out to the centre, to create a 'glow'. I trimmed it with a circle die, and then cut a slightly bigger circle, and embossed the edges with the same embossing powder, for a perfect match!

I inked the little Stars of David with Fiesta Blue and Something Borrowed ink and put them randomly on the white card base.
