LIMES: Faux 'Black Ice' Peace

Welcome to this week's LIMES inspiration post!

I chose this card as my inspiration from the gallery of this week's Splitcoaststampers' Featured Stamper, Charmaine!

LIST: Colours (blue, black, silver), Techniques ('black ice', stamping, heat embossing), Elements (slimline card, 3 shells on 3 separate "grungy" panels, strip of glitter washi tape, hello sentiment on bottom right corner

INCLUDE: blue, black, 'grungy' panel with frame and black images, sentiment in lower corner

MODIFY: one panel instead of 3, ink swiping instead of black ice technique, sentiment stamped directly onto panel

EXCLUDE: glitter strip

SPIN: white gel pen accents, 4 1/4" square card instead of slimline

The 'black ice' technique on Charmaine's card looks amazing, but it requires swiping/stamping on metallic/slick cardstock so an ink like Stayzon is required, and I don't have it.

But I'm all about getting the look without the exact products, so I swiped two blue and one black ink onto some white cardstock, leaving it as streaky as possible to get a similar feel.

Then I stamped snowflakes all over the panel in that same black ink, stamping 4 times to be sure that they were very dark and contrasted with the background.

Black Ice then calls for swiping embossing ink very lightly over the panel and heat embossing with clear powder to create the look of little ice droplets. I used holographic embossing powder to compensate for the fact that the cardstock wasn't metallic and didn't have that shimmer.

  1. What a great CASE of the card Arydth, and a wonderful alternative to the black ice technique with a lot less fuss
