This week's Less Is More challenge is a fun one. One Layer, but with a twist. No white card bases allowed. My friend Hannelie made me pretty much give up altogether on this challenge when she linked up this card, which I think is probably the best One Layer Card EVER. I mean, look at the depth and interest she achieved. I just love how the flower and font of the sentiment look with that shading.
But then I had an idea. I started with a white card base. And then I sponged it all over and ended up with this (you can see that the distress ink wasn't even dry yet!):
To keep it clean and simple, after I embossed the sentiment in clear (yes it comes that way, with 3 'thank yous'), I sponged on only 3 colours, in shades that are closely related.
As you can see, in the end I couldn't resist cutting this down and putting it onto a white card base so that there's a nice big white frame around the edges! lol! I love my white card bases - thanks to Chrissie and Jen for the stretch this week but I'll have to give it another try!
:D
ReplyDeleteI am still pondering on ideas... also thinking of adding my own color to the card base... with watercoloring!
Awesome sponging!
Lovely colours and sponging. x
ReplyDeleteGreat card, I was toying with a similar idea myself! Jo x
ReplyDeleteI like the white base. It just makes the whole card pop! Amazing sponging. Every time I try, it looks like something a preschooler would do. I'm terribly inspired to try again after seeing this beauty! Sweet. Bev
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sponging...and I'm with you on the white base - just finishes everything off so nicely and really brings out the 'thank you'.
ReplyDeleteBesides, sometimes rules are meant to be broken!
Love the card! The stripes are super trendy and the colors are lovely. I wouldn't have been able to resist the white card base either :) It really makes the embossing POP!
ReplyDeleteTotally worth throwing this challenge, the white border makes me very happy! Absolutely love this card. The saturated colors look so good together. The thin blue section makes me REALLY happy.
ReplyDeleteThis is stunning! It looks like so much work went into making this card too. Love it and will be giving this one a try!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the white base frame, Ardyth ... sets off the wonderful spongeing and colours so beautifully! Anita :)
ReplyDeleteI have to agree that the white border is just what the coloured piece needed.... I much prefer white card bases too. Love how the three sentiments span the colours perfectly :0)
