OLW128 - Feminine Birthday
This week's One Layer Wednesday challenge is being hosted by Heather. The challenge is to make a feminine birthday card.
Heather advised us to use our favourite things - she sponged and masked, and I went for graphic shapes and bold colours.
(If you're a member of the SPCS (Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Stamps), you may want to stop reading now.)
I created this half-circle stamp by cutting a large clear stamp in half. I do this all the time - to me, that's one of the great things about clear stamps. I admit that mostly, I cut sentiments (and I try to cut them in such a way that they become like a puzzle and will fit together again in their original form), but I had a craving for a half-circle, and I just didn't have one. I did however, have a couple of circles this size, so I thought I would go for it. I cut it with a large pair of scissors, to try to keep the line as straight as possible. You would think that this should result in two half-circle stamps, but it didn't. At least I got one!
I simply added my new Verve sentiment and left it at that.

This is gorgeous. I just have to tell you how brave I think you are (with the cutting, you know)
ReplyDeleteI also cut stamps up all the time, both clear and rubber. But I also cut them in such a way that they can be put back together to stamp in their entirety. Tools, not jewels as the saying goes!!!! What grieved me more was pulling the wooden blocks off my Hero Arts stamps but if they are easier to use sans their blocks, then that is what I do!!!! Love the colours of your card by the way.
ReplyDeleteTerrifc half-circle flower card! Very nice! I am not a member and I have cut lots of my stamps. Whatever floats your boat, right? I also "split up" my "boxed" sets, which I understand is in violation of the 10 Stamp Commandments, and punishable by stamp imprisonment. Heehee! :D
ReplyDeleteOooooh! I think you'r brave too, but you have a gorgeous card to show for it ! :)
ReplyDeleteI just love the way your mind works! Not that I KNOW how it works....... the fun is in reading your description of the card (via e-mail), guessing what the card might actually look like, then seeing it and being stunned every time. LOVE your cards.
ReplyDeleteIf you fussy-cut your design and popped it up on a little skewer, you'd have a unique Pinwheel.
Is it the brand of the ink, or the technique you use to stamp, that makes your images always so clean and clear?
Bahb
Gorgeous card. I too cut up my stamps. Makes them more versatile. :)
ReplyDeleteSuper! Love the bold colours and graphic shape - so perfectly you!
ReplyDeleteAs for cutting stamps - I'm beginning to do it a bit more ;)
This is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteWonderful creativity Ardyth. I think slicing that stamp in half was a brilliant idea and those bold colours look fabulous and very you!
ReplyDeleteArdyth, what you did with that stamp, you are like the Macgiver of the stamps!
ReplyDeleteSuch perfect overlapping, wow!
(I hope you are familiar with Macgiver, he was the character of a series where he could make anything out of anything.)

Braveheart! Yep....you go where most stampers won't go!
ReplyDeleteAwesome idea...why was I NOT surprised when I read your post :)
Love the colors and the flawlessly stamped images - SU ink?
What a great design, very striking! I don't think I've ever made a one layer card - too hard lol x
ReplyDeleteP.s -I love cutting up stamps, especially sentiment ones :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this ... bold, gorgeous colours, simple sentiment and so precise! I got just a little brave the other day and cut up a sentiment for the first time ... yikes!! Anita :)
ReplyDeleteVery creative..... it wouldn't have a straight edge if I cut a circle in half!!!

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful! I love the colors and it really makes for a very sweet birthday card.
ReplyDeleteoh this is going to be so versatile for you ... I can't wait to see what else you use it for! I've cut pieces off a stamp before, but never through the whole image. Way to go!
ReplyDeleteThis is so neat and clean and modern and wonderful Ardyth! I love the color combo of pink and orange, and The way you did the card is so effective and I love how CAS it is!
