Rainbow Thank You

Another experiment in watercolour. I tell you, I was thinking it would be easy and I would just figure it out but it's not working like that! I keep watching videos and trying it out but most of what I'm getting back, I'm not happy with. I think the biggest issue for me is that you have no control over the results. Anyway, it's just paper and watercolour (and time!) and I'll keep trying.

And I admit that I am quite happy with the bright colours and blending on this one (still working on getting some nice edges to my pools of colour). I used my Kuretake Gansai Tambi on Ranger watercolour paper. Then I trimmed off the really ugly parts of the edges to create a panel. And then I cut my Memory Box sentiment out and it wasn't straight! So I had a choice - either lay the panel down straight with the sentiment slanted or vice versa.

  1. oh, who cares about a little straightness??? It is rich in color and there is strength in the words. Who could ask for anything more???? People should not be so picky. I love it.

  2. I honestly love the wee wonky twist of the inked panel! It really 'fits' with the abstract watercolor background. Had you not mentioned this, I would have assumed it to be part of the Master Plan Design...cuz it looks great!

  3. I feel you, Ardyth... but I am loving your card :)
(I wonder how many watercolour paper has landed in my bin recently ...)

  4. I took a lesson once and was pretty bad and the instructor told me that my anxiety about making things perfect was ruining my attempts. So with watercolor I guess you got to let it go!! This is terrific! Love those bright colors. I love the no edge look, but if you want an edge, use more water.... I hope you keep watercoloring.

  5. I think it looks great this way. I tend to put everything on straight and I really need to stop doing that so much. I know what you mean about watercolors. Every video I watch makes it look so easy and it doesn't work that way for me, either. I like the way this one turned out, though. It's very bright and pretty.

  6. We cardmakers are our own worst enemies sometimes. I think your card looks perfect! I love the angle and anyone would be thrilled to receive this card. AND they would imagine you angled the panel on purpose. Keep up the great work - I love your blog!!

am glad to hear that i am not the only one struggling with watercolours,

  8. Love the watercolour rainbow effect. And the white sentiment really pops off it.

  9. I truly love the card. Your usual boldness is there, as well as a rainbow and tweaking the angle of the paper is something I like to do.

  12. And there I was thinking you'd tilted the panel so perfectly, Ardyth! Your watercolour wash is fantastic, the colours are so beautifully merged ... I rarely manage to get such gorgeous, vibrant results! Love it, my friend! Bisous, Anita :)

  13. Ardyth I think this is beautiful. The way those bold primary colours have blended is gorgeous! Last night I made two Attempts with watercolour before I resort to smooshing. When I get my Kuretake from you we need to work on it. Still you are way ahead of me. Ya where did all the rain come from!

  14. You are too hard on yourself. This is bright, bold, happy and fabulous. Love how it is a little wonky. Must be your OCD that wants it all straight and organized, but this is free flowing prettiness.

  16. I think you did a fantastic job, the colours are so vivid. I really struggle with the loss of control of water colouring but the more I do it, the more I can let go a bit more and not worry so much. But boy its hard!!!!

  17. I am loving your watercolor edges Ardyth! And I love those bright colors too. The panel looks great on a tilt, so I would say that is a happy mistake! lol Hugs, Brenda

  18. And here I was thinking you slanted it like that on purpose! It looks great.

I find these watercolor things usually work out pretty well, though never the way I had pictured. They always look terrible at first, then great once they've dried, or at least good enough to use a background with something embossed over top.
