Ellen Hutson Design Team Hop

Good morning! The new Ellen Hutson Design Team is having a 'get to know you' blog hop today. Even though most of us have been crafting and cardmaking for many years, I still find it fun and informative (and occasionally life-changing!) to see other crafters' favourite tips and techniques and that's what this hop is all about.

I chose a few of my favourites to feature - CAS design, a mixture of stamp sets, a rainbow of colour and crisp black sentiment.

I started by creating my rainbow panel, with mid-tone Copic markers. I put down colour in lines across the panel, some straight, some slightly diagonal and started each colour in the bottom of the previous colour to blend a bit. I wanted a lot of variation in the colours - a streaky look, so I went over the coloured panel with my colourless blender which lifts and softens the colours.

Next, I stamped and cut the penguin, 2 balloons and a party hat (turned out it was a bit too big for him, so I stamped another balloon). This penguin with his flipper up looks so earnest, like he's waving hello or he wants to be picked next for a team or like he's floating away with balloons!

I left him and the balloons mostly white to let the background stand out. I did add some sparkle to the balloons with Star Dust Stickles (another one of my long-time favourites!)

I used Catherine Pooler Midnight Ink for all my black stamping - this ink is Copic-friendly, waterproof and stamps easily and crisply. You need to use a light hand - a couple of taps is all it takes to ink up your stamp.

Now for some fun facts about me!
  1. Coffee or tea? Tea but it has to be black tea (I need caffeine!). Here in Canada we have a chain called David's Tea which has lots of flavoured teas and fun tea accessories. In the winter, I drink a mixture of Candy Cane Crush and Santa's Secret (chocolate/mint - YUM!!) and all year long, I drink Maracuja Mango iced in my fizzy water (I gave up my 4-a-day Diet Coke habit a few years ago!).
  2. How did you come up with your blog name? My family is made up of (in age order, even!) Michael, Ardyth, Struan and Kate. MASK is our acronym and I decided to use it to personalize my blog way back in 2012 when I started. I'm the vowel - the glue that holds it all together! lol!
  3. Tell us one silly/random/interesting tidbit about yourself! The background for this card was inspired by my phone's homescreen!

  3. This looks like so much fun! Coloring in random straight and diagonal lines never looked so good. My husband Brad just quit his 4-5 can/day pop habit last week ... hopefully he's as successful as you are! Seriously couldn't be happier to finally be on a team with you after all these years!! xo
