FFC08 - Sweet!
Welcome to the second week of our Festive Friday trigger challenge.
The challenge is Sweet!
I struggled with this one - I don't have a lot of 'sweet' Christmas images. And you'll get an adult-rated surprise if you Google "sweet Christmas" for ideas! lol! I wanted something g-rated and kept looking at the other DT members' samples and participants' entries for inspiration.
In the end, I decided on a candy cane theme, with this perfectly appropriate Neat and Tangled sentiment. I thought I would do a panel in green and red (masked and sponged) stripes, with lots of white space. In fact there was so much white space, I thought I would add some sweet 'sugar' (coarse glitter) with double-sided tape. And it looked fine. Sweet as in candy cane, but not really sweet as in cute.
Then I remembered the gingerbread man from Scentsational Season (Stampin' Up!) which I bought last year and had not seen ink yet. I chomped out an opening for him to peek out, using a circle punch - you should have seen me trying to decide whether or not to do it - I was positive I would ruin the panel and have to start over - that's what comes of not planning ahead, but just letting the card evolve! I pulled out my Really Rust ink (long retired, which is too bad because it's a great gingerbread colour). And now I think it's sweet as in cute.
Can't wait to see your sweet Christmas creations! Don't forget to link up before the deadline, Wednesday, May 22 by 11:59 pm (PST).

ReplyDeleteIt's awesome!! So funny that the gingerbread man was an afterthought, because it definitely doesn't look that way. I love this one!!
ReplyDeleteHow sweet is this ! Love the little Gingerbread man peeping out !
ReplyDeleteNessa xx
I just love this card - so different.
ReplyDeleteI love the stripes and the touch of glitter Ardyth!
ReplyDeleteHow adorable! What did you use to make those perfect stripes?
ReplyDeleteLove the little guy peeping from behind. Great creative thinking!
ReplyDeleteI love this card, Ardyth! The gingerbread man is super cute peeking out of there, and the striped panel is gorgeous. I totally know what you mean about being afraid to ruin it, but this turned out perfectly. The "sugar" is a brilliant finishing touch. I haven't thought of an idea yet, and now all I can think is that I wish I'd thought of this!
ReplyDeleteOh Ardyth, this is sweet enough to eat! Maybe I'll have to make some gingercreme cake for the little ones over in the TCs this weekend! Love the stripes, especially the glittery one, and the font on your sentiment is awesome! Really love this. Bev
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend.
...this card is exactly the reason why you are so famous and have nine million people following your every move! Clever, creative, perfectly stamped and the bit of frosty bling on your candy cane stripes is to die for! Seriously awesome!
ReplyDeleteReally Rust - yes, a beautiful color that produces such a beautiful deep, rich color. One of my favs as well!
Loved hearing about this sweet gingerbreadman's evolution, Ardyth ... I'm so with you about the should-I, shouldn't-I moment ... it worked beautifully! The frosty sugar stripes are fabulous! Anita :)
ReplyDeleteMr. Gingerbread looks so cute waving his holiday wishes. I love the addition of the glitter stripes, too.
ReplyDeleteGreat call on adding the glitter ... fills the space but is still white, perfect! Totally hear you on being nervous to mess with the panel. So glad you did though. The peeking is so charming. AND, my left brain loves how your top and bottom margins are perfectly equal : )
ReplyDeleteFantastic! I have a soft spot for glittery things. And that cookie peeking out is totally adorable. I <3 it!
ReplyDeleteI don't particularly do 'cute' as you know Ardyth but this is my kind of cute! Love that little gingerbread man peeking out!
ReplyDeleteOh, so very SWEET ~ love the little gingerbread man peeking out!
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, what Geri said!!!!

He is just adorable peeking round the edge of the card... he reminds me of the story and I'm wondering if the hungry characters from the story are far behind him!!
