Susan is hosting this week's One Layer Wednesday, and the challenge is snow! And that theme goes perfectly with the colours from this week's Colour Q:
This swooshy snowflake stamp is from Kitchen Sink Stamps - I spent a bit of time looking for it on line, but they don't seem to carry it anymore (or am I wrong about who makes it?!). I did add some Stickles for sparkle (are you playing along with CASology this week? hint, hint!) but they seem to have disappeared in my photo. The sentiment is from Papertrey Ink.
On another note, I feel I am going to have to lodge a complaint with the City of Toronto. The lighting they've been providing this week has made photography very difficult. Unfortunately, our Mayor probably does not have time to 'fix' this situation as he is busy appealing the ruling kicking him out of office due to a conflict of interest. Which was in addition to the fact that he ordered a city bus to go pick up the high school football team that he coaches when their game was cancelled. Which is in addition to having to spend time defending himself in a libel suit for accusing someone of corruption when he had absolutely nothing but a 'bad feeling'. And on it goes.... Don't get me started - I assure you that I did not vote for this man. Ah, politics!
In the meantime, any advice on light boxes? Do you use one? Which one? Do you like it? What would you change about it?

ReplyDeleteThis is stunning! I happened to check out ColourQ this morning and the second I saw your card, I knew it was an "Ardyth" card because of its beauty and perfectly stamped image!
Well, I'm relieved to read that you did not mask this beauty. But it's funny that when I saw your card I immediately assumed that to be the case.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, my view of politicians is that they are all like that, to varying levels, and it's just a matter of what we end up finding out about. I don't use a light box, but it certainly would come in handy now that it gets dark so early!!

ReplyDeleteI love the movement on this card, fabulous! I think you photo looks great! I prefer natural light. I do have a light box, but it doesn't compare to natural light. Maybe I don't have the right bulbs?

ReplyDeleteI hear your pain RE: light! I'm a night crafter, so 90% of the time I'm taking pics at night. My suggestions are Ott lamps or the brightest natural bulbs you can find (look for high lumens for the bulbs) and some type of light diffuser. I use a large piece of parchment paper (the kind you bake with) as a light diffuser. Good luck!

ReplyDeleteOh my goodness...the movement on this card is awesome!! And I do use a light box from Cowboy Studio along with their lights/light bulbs. Still not always happy with my pictures though!

Beautiful card... love the blues. Your stories about Ford makes me laugh and steam.I love Toronto since I grew up there and still come up a few times year to visit my family there and its a shame someone like him is leading such a great city!

ReplyDeleteYou'd think we Brits would be good at taking photographs in bad conditions, seeing as our weather is perennially Dull & Damp, but no. I often need to use a light tent and lighting, and get a better photo than without it, but I almost always have to manipulate the resulting photo. I do like it, but the thing with light tents is that unless you have the room to leave them set up, they are a faff to keep setting up and putting away. See Joy Taylor's blog for a video tour of her light tent setup.
How eye catching and original is that? It gives new meaning to the phrase, "the snow swirled around me."

ReplyDeleteAnd I hear your pain about getting the right light for photographing cards. And for me cards that are primarily white are the hardest to do. I use a lightbox and I light it from the top with something that is very similar to an Ott. I have a couple of lights for the sides but the bulbs are not working and I haven't found replacements for them yet. I think that is a big part of the reason why my cards are often too dark for my taste.

ReplyDeleteI don't have a great spot to photograph my cards in natural light so I made a lightbox. There are tutorials on how to do that if you do a Google search. I have 3 daylight bulbs 1 on the top and 2 on the sides. I also diffuse the light like JJ does. I still have to do some editing in Photoshop.

ReplyDeleteI craft at night and could never get a good light. I now use a light box and it makes all the difference, never perfect but that's probably my technique.
I was interested in your comments on the local politics. I am always astounded at the arrogance of some politicians. I read in a book that Australians expect the best of their politicians and are disappointed when the don't live up to their expectations. Whereas Italians expect the worst from their politicians and are pleasantly surprised when they do something to benefit the country. I thought this was an interesting statement

ReplyDeleteI have a small "photo box", I'm not calling it a light box as there is no light... I use daylight and my photos are always (and badly) retouched on picmonkey.com... I have LOADS of improvement to make, but am happy about my box and it will just have to do the trick for now... I'll post about it as soon as I have some time, probably in Jan!
