FFC03 - Snowflake Surprise!

The current Festive Friday challenge is an element challenge: Snowflake.

Meredith told me that this is an actual photograph of a snowflake taken in about 1900. I love how silvery and frosty it looks!

Snowflakes are one of my all time favourite elements. I wanted to make something very clean and simple, but special, too! I've seen a lot of little wooden embellishments out there these days, and I love the sturdy dimension they give to a card, so I decided to create one of my own, with a slight difference.

I cut 7 of my new Hero Arts Fancy Snowflakes, 6 in rainbow colours and 1 white. I stacked them carefully on top of each other to create one thick, multicoloured snowflake sandwich. I didn't worry if the layers weren't exactly perfectly together - I figured a little bit of colour peeking out would draw in the recipient of the card, to see what I did - here's a close up:

I'll be really happy if I don't see any more (real) snowflakes until well, ever. But at least until next Christmas. In the meantime, I'm happy to make them into cards all year long!

ETA (March 18) - WOW! This card won the challenge! I'm so thrilled and honoured!

Please send some snow to the desert... temperatures are starting to rise, and I really don't look forward to Summer!
Your card is lovely Ardyth! Looks great with the different layers ever so slightly peeping out!

BOLD and simple and delicate. Love how you can achieve this all at once. GREAT card!

I just purchased my Bigshot in Oct, so I am such a newbie.

Inspires me to look at large die cuts.

Have a great day!

I'm with you, no more real snow, especially since I'll be heading back to Michigan in two weeks. I love the peeking color behind your flake.

Only you can come up with the idea to combine a rainbow and ice and come up with the 'coolest' card that is sporting some 'hot' colors! Beyond clever again!

Goodness, I LOVE this ... all those yummy rainbow coloured layers! You've completely nailed this challenge, Ardyth, and captured the true essence of the image ... what appears to be a simple snowflake really isn't ... it's SO much more! Anita :)

This is brilliant! Love the peeks of colour! You can send some snow our way if you want. It would make turning on the heat feel less weird!
