CFC 71 - Thanks

This week's CASual Friday challenge is Fall Fun. So here are some fun falling leaves! lol! I love the '70s colour combination in this little 'stained glass' leaf from Paper Smooches Gently Seasoned set. I rounded the opposite corners to emphasize the movement of the leaves from top left to bottom right - did it work? Little dabs of Diamond stickles at one end of each leaf just because I like a little sparkle on my cards.

I really love stained glass - so much that a few years ago, I took a course through the Toronto District School Board's Continuing Education department. I had a wonderful teacher who let us design what we wanted to make and helped us, really just letting us use class time as studio time. Here is the result, that hangs in my kitchen.

I designed it myself to fit my kitchen window, loosely based on a Frank Lloyd Wright design called The Tree of Life and the materials that we had available in the class. I really needed to make two of these (this window has a matching window to the left), but that was a little ambitious for an 8 week course (I barely finished this one and you can easily see that the lines do not all line up perfectly!). When I registered to take the course again and make the matching window, the teacher had changed, and she had a firm idea that every person in the class would be making the same project. Maybe one day, I'll find a way to make another one, in the meantime, this is a fun reminder of me with a soldering iron in my hot little hands!

  1. This is so "you," Ardyth. Often when I look at your cards, they remind me of beautiful stained glass. You have a natural knack for it and, obviously, an eye for design. Seems to me, no foolin', you should hook up as an apprentice for materials, followed quickly by being the teacher yourself!

  4. Love the 70's colors of the falling leaves. Rounding the opposite corners really does give the leaves movement!

Now, how about that window! Seriously, this is as a result of a beginner's class? It is truly breathtaking and is a fine example of your clean and graphic style :)

  13. Love those retro leaves, and the corner-rounding definitely works.

That stained glass window is impressive! I love the texture and pattern of the clear glass as much as the tree design.

  14. Indeed, those 70s colors are so fun together (now that the 70s are a distant memory!)

I recognized the style on the stained glass window you made immediately! We live next to several FLW houses and they are so incredible to tour. My friend took me to one as a birthday present one year. Anyone who designs furniture to match the house has an eye for detail that really speaks to me! You did an incredible job on designing and implementing the stained glass window. What a fun class to pick, and good for you to try it!! Another girlfriend and I are going to do glass blowing soon. I've heard it's a little scary, with the heat and all. Should be fun though : )
